Forest Friends Preschool Set to Open in October on Local Church Land
Forest Friends of the KP, the community’s first licensed full-time preschool, plans to open its doors to two classes of 15 children in October. It’s not doors that students will enter, but a path through the woods to outdoor classrooms. The nature-based school, located on the grounds of the Key Peninsula Lutheran Church in Lakebay, is the culmination of months of work, planning and vision.

Minerva Scholarship Sends Longbranch Woman to Advanced Studies Abroad
Longbranch resident Gretchen Schowalter was awarded a $7,000 Minerva Scholarship in July to pursue advanced studies in physics at the Niels Bohr Institute at the University of Copenhagen. Her first year at the Institute will provide an overview of physics areas: quantum computers and quantum communication, astrophysics, particle physics, computational physics, solid state physics, climate and geophysics, and biophysics. This will allow her to narrow her focus and seek research opportunities.
Black Hills aiming for bounce back year under new coach
TUMWATER — Black Hills’ 2023 season came to an unceremonious end. By Week 9, the Wolves didn’t have enough players to field a team, leading them to forfeit the Pioneer Bowl, a loss that put their final season record at 1-8. It was a much different ending than the one the Wolves went through just 12 months prior, when they reached the state tournament.
