Richard Weaver, born and raised in Bonneauville, turned 100 years old today, July 25. He is the third of 13 children. Weaver enlisted in the Army in 1944 with the 17th Airborne Division known as “The Golden Talons,” receiving his parachute and glider badges. During World War II, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded, and Operation Varsity, receiving accommodations and medals for his bravery. He returned home to his sweetheart, Jeanne, in 1946. They married soon after, together raising 11 children; they celebrated for 66 years together. Weaver became a master plasterer. In 1978, he was invited to be part of the first class offered by the Diocese of Harrisburg for a lay person to become a deacon. For almost 40 years, Deacon Weaver, as he is known, assisted the priests at St. Joseph the Worker in Bonneauville, as well as going throughout the county, visiting many nursing homes, prisons, shut-ins and hospitals to minister, provided support, communion and comfort. Weaver said he is blessed and honored to have been able to touch so many people’s lives but most importantly how many lives touched him. The family will celebrate his 100th birthday at the Deacon Richard Weaver community center with the mayor and the Borough of Bonneauville presenting him a proclamation noting July 25 as Richard J. John H. Summy, 89, passed into the presence of his Lord early Tuesday morning, July 23, 2024 at the Lebanon Valley Home, Annville. He was the loving husband of the late Rev. Ruth Mary (Shaak) Summy. They were married 44 years when she passed in August of 2013. John was born on the farm in Elstonville, Lancaster County on April 12, 1935 to the late Elmer K. and Rosa B. (Garman) Summy. He grew up in Penryn first on the farm and then his family had the butcher shop in village until he was through 9th grade. They then moved to a farm in Lebanon County along the Swatara Creek. John graduated from the Annville High School class of 1953. He served in the U.S. Army and Reserves from 1957 to 1963. He was an interior decorator and furniture salesman his whole life.
