Amtrak starts phase 4 of track renewal project in central Pa.
Amtrak started the fourth phase of its track renewal on the Harrisburg line Wednesday, marking the project’s halfway point, the company announced. The work on the Harrisburg line, which started in March, is part of a $122 million project between Harrisburg and Lancaster. Projects of this caliber would typically take around two years, but Amtrak is using a combination of single and full track outages to improve efficiency, according to a press release.

Hello, Northsiders! I’m eager to share with you some of the important work I’ve been doing in Harrisburg and back at home. I was proud to cast my affirmative vote for a basic education funding bill that would help get our public schools the dollars they need to assist students, teachers and staff, and I spoke in support of the bill prior to passage. The legislation is a result of the bipartisan Basic Education Funding Commission’s findings that Pennsylvania has not fulfilled its constitutional obligations when it comes to public education.
47 people charged with felony public assistance fraud in June 2024 by Pennsylvania Inspector General
HARRISBURG, Pa. — In June of 2024, 47 people were charged with felony public assistance fraud, according to the Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG). The restitution owed to the Commonwealth in these cases reportedly totals $228,772. Additional cost savings will be realized because the defendants will be temporarily disqualified from receiving public benefits in the programs they allegedly defrauded, according to OSIG.
