Recognizing 75 Years of Nursing Excellence at NSU
It is 1949. Harry S. Truman is the president of the United States and Earl K. Long the governor of Louisiana. The Dow Industrial Average hit a peak of a bit over 200 in June. That year also saw the recently renamed Northwestern State College graduate its first alumna with a four year nursing degree. That nurse sparked a superb 75 year record of excellence in not just nursing, but a variety of allied health disciplines.

It has been a strange time in the real estate world. It started with a market that was so hot, listed homes lasted only days. "It was like nothing I've ever seen," said Realtor Jeri Little of Little Realty Inc. "In March, April and May of 2020, I got not one phone call and had zero showings. Then in about July, it was like the rush for toilet paper. I would get a call, and they would have to see a house right then, they couldn't wait one hour, not 30 minutes, right then. I had to start cold calling (to find inventory) to get clients what they wanted."
Gov. Landry visits Monroe, makes case for juvenile detention services to keep minor youth offenders out of adult jail
Governor Jeff Landry addressed the Monroe Chamber of Commerce to discuss the allocation of $100 million to juvenile justice funding in Louisiana. The funding is intended to expand the capacity of juvenile detention centers, providing necessary resources for rehabilitation and reintegration of young offenders into society and keep the out of adult incarceration.

HMT students gain confidence, professional experience through international internships
Northwestern State University students in the Hospitality Management and Tourism program got a taste of international culture through summer internships abroad. Uriel Rodriguez of Natchitoches worked at a boutique hotel in Spain while Olivia Habetz of Jennings worked at a luxury safari destination in the South African bush. Both said the experience was enriching personally and academically.
Local Teen competes internationally at World Powerlifting Championships
As our Olympians return from Europe, a young man from Natchitoches will cross the Atlantic with gold medal hopes of his own. Powerlifter Nathan Lovemore will represent Natchitoches and Natchitoches Central on the international stage this Summer in Malta. Lovemore will compete at the IPF Sub-junior and Junior, Classic and Equipped, World Powerlifting Championships that will be held on 28 August 2024 to 08 September 2024, in Valletta, Malta.
Abduction, murder plot thwarted by Morris County Sheriff’s office
A plot of abduction and murder was uncovered by the Morris County Sheriff’s office earlier this month. According to a press release from the County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Macey Stewart was the one responsible for this uncovering. Sheriff’s investigator Kellie Hooper assembled a team, including Texas Rangers to investigate and intercept the suspect before anyone was harmed. Sergeant Hooper and Texas Ranger David Stewart developed solid probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant and search warrant for the suspect’s property. The time has finally come for the Red River football team to hit somebody other than a teammate. The Bulldogs will host Bossier High in a scrimmage Thursday at 6 p.m. Red River is slated to play in the Bayou Jamb at ULM the next week before kicking off the regular season at Catholic-Pointe Coupee on Sept. 6.
