An NJ Transit train struck a car in East Rutherford, causing major delays for the Monday morning commute, officials said.

The Pascack Valley Line train did not have passengers when it struck a vehicle on the tracks at Union Avenue around 8:16 a.m., said John Chartier, an NJ Transit spokesperson. There were no injuries to the train's crew or the driver of the vehicle, who was not identified.

The train is operating with up to 60 minute delays in both directions. A list of alternative services can be found on the NJ Transit website.

    NJ Transit police are investigating.

An eyewitness who did not want to be identified said, "I never thought I would see something like this. This is something you only see in movies."
