Gonzales hits go-ahead single in 8th, Keller allows 1 run in 7 innings as Pirates beat Cardinals 2-1
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Nick Gonzales hit a go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning after Mitch Keller allowed one run in the first seven, and the Pittsburgh Pirates won for the seventh time in eight games, 2-1 over the St. Louis Cardinals in a matchup of NL wild card contenders on Monday night. Bryan Reynolds led off the eighth with a single to left before advancing to second on a wild pitch. With one out, Gonzales sneaked a slow dribbler off John King (3-2) through the right side of the infield. Gonzales hit a late-inning, go-ahead single for the second time in four games. He did it in the ninth inning against Philadelphia on Friday, giving the Pirates an 8-7 win. “People that have the ability to slow their heartbeats down and hit in those situations, it’s something that can’t be taught,” Pittsburgh manager Derek Shelton said. “It’s something that you have to do. I think we’ve got a couple guys that have it.”

How a St. Louis content creator finds success — and community — through Black nerd culture
Being a “nerd” is typically not something people aspire to. The label can get more difficult to navigate within Black American circles; a deviation from Black art and media may be misconstrued as a betrayal of "authentic Blackness." Today, much of Black nerd (also known as “Blerd”) culture has made it to the mainstream — and even popularized — thanks to celebrities like rapper Megan thee Stallion, actor Michael B. Jordan and guitarist Thundercat.

Cardinals at Pirates July 23rd, 2024
The Cardinals edge out the Pirates and avenge last night’s mirrored one run loss. The Cardinals pitching held down the Pirates’ lackluster offense with a stellar Lance Lynn drenched in sweat pitching performance. This pivotal second game was a pretty substantial one game test, since it held back the Pirates from tying us, placing them two games back from the Cardinals and ensuring that they cannot catch up even with a series win.

5 ways the St. Louis Cardinals have proven they've learned from past mistakes in 2024
The St. Louis Cardinals have rightfully been criticized for a lot of mistakes over the last few years, and many of those mistakes culminated in their disaster of a season in 2023. While we could write a whole different story on the mistakes they continue to make as an organization, I think there are multiple areas where the club has made important shifts.
