City of Reading Reminds Public of Sidewalk Café, Sales, and Vendor Regulations
The City of Reading is issuing a reminder to all residents and business owners about the regulations and ordinances regarding sidewalk cafes, sidewalk sales, and sidewalk vendors. This reminder comes in response to an increase in unpermitted open-flame cooking devices being used on sidewalks, which poses significant public safety risks.

Burpee Open at Fordhook Farm will take guests behind-the-scenes
Burpee, one of the most well-known gardening brands in the U.S., will host its annual Burpee Open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 27. The free event rooted in a rich tradition that dates back to the 1800s will take place at Burpee’s Fordhook Farm, 105 New Britain Road, Doylestown, and will feature self-guided garden tours to give guests a behind-the-scenes peek into the magic of Burpee’s gardens. Aqua PA reps talk PFAS, rates at Chalfont meeting
Two representatives of Aqua PA addressed public concerns over proposed rate hikes and PFAS contamination during a July 8 meeting with Chalfont Borough Council. PFAS is a group of synthetic chemicals used in everything from food packaging to firefighting foam. Exposure to PFAS chemicals is linked to several birth defects, as well as kidney and thyroid issues.

Bonnie Gehman opened The Treasure Trove at 6 South 7th Street in Perkasie in 1980 with her friend, Dottie Kapusta, as her partner. Dottie’s husband got the two women started by giving them a loan. Dottie’s parents were longtime collectors of antiques and they helped by contributing numerous items to the fledgling consignment shop. Bonnie and Dottie were able to pay off their loan within the year, and from there the business took off.
Bedminster artist’s out-the-box mural complete
Ed Bennett’s mural on the side of his Bedminster barn is finally complete. The finishing touch was the American flag he had mounted on the roof as a three-dimensional extension of his painting, which shows black, brown, white and red-tinted forearms and hands reaching upward, clasping a pole. Bennett, who owns and operates the Galvanized America Inn and Art Gallery with his wife, Sherri, said the mural is meant to evoke a message of inclusivity and diversity.
