Through the years: A decade ago, Apollo-Ridge won big in ‘Viking Bowl’
Each week throughout the high school football season, the Valley News Dispatch will take a look at the players, coaches and events that shaped our scholastic legacy. In what was billed the Viking Bowl, Apollo-Ridge’s Vikings defeated Valley’s Vikings, 49-0, in 2014. Big plays included an 81-yard scoring run by Jonah Casella, a 92-yard punt return by Tre Tipton and a 47-yard interception return by Duane Brown.
Norwin uses strong ground game to defeat Kiski Area
For the second straight week, Kiski Area played out of conference, hosting Class 6A Norwin on Friday night to open a four game homestand. The Cavaliers, who jumped in front 7-0, trailed 20-7 at halftime. Kiski Area went back in the lead 21-20 before the Knights scored the game’s final 13 points for a 33-21 win at Richard A. Diltz field.
Shots fired near Woodland Hills-Penn Hills high school football game

Indiana edged Kiski Area by just two strokes yesterday in an important Section match at the Indiana Country Club. Final score, 191-193 as Gabe Nettleton, playing in the fial group, drove the par four, 338-yard 9th hole and two-putted for birdie. Ryan Bell led a group of six players who all shot 41 or better. Bell was at even par 36. Nettleton shot 37, Chace Force 38 and Austin Schawl and Drew Brocious both shot 40. Caden Force had a 41. Kiski’s Caden Witt shot a 35 to earn medalist honors.
