Southern Miss receives $3.8 million grant

SUMMARY: The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) has launched the Golden Eagle Teacher Apprentice Program, supported by a $3.8 million Department of Labor grant. This program enables students to work as teaching assistants in local schools while pursuing online coursework, addressing the teacher shortage and aiding students in affording education. By gaining real classroom experience, students are more likely to stay in the teaching profession. The program also offers scholarships to offset costs, reducing student debt. This marks the third grant USM’s Department of Education has received this year, totaling over $7 million for teacher residency and apprenticeship initiatives.
