Institute celebrates, reflects on 50 years of marine education
SEAL HARBOR — The Acadia Institute of Oceanography (AIO) will celebrate 50 years of marine education this weekend, August 17-18. Saturday will feature a Maine luncheon of lobster roll or baked haddock (plus whoopie pies, red potatoes, corn on the cob, coleslaw and blueberry pie) and an all-afternoon open house at the Schoolhouse, where there will be light refreshments, merchandise for sale, a retrospective photo montage and time to connect or reconnect with AIO folks.
Brewer P.D. reports a recent rise in vehicle burglaries
BREWER -- The Brewer Police Department has noticed an alarming rise in vehicle burglaries. "It does tend to happen with the summer months. In the warmer weather people tend to be out and about especially at night," said Brewer Police Detective Savannah Lutz. "However, the amount in the past two weeks has been pretty aggressive. We've seen about eight in the past two weeks."
