Target Announces Change That Will Affect All Maine Stores Next Week
As major retailers nationwide continue to battle to keep customers visiting their physical locations, one has been more proactive in that fight than others. That would be Target. Earlier this year, the retailer implemented a major change to their self-checkout lanes. A 10 items or less policy was put into place in hopes that it would speed up the lanes and keep customer grumbles down. That policy has been an overwhelming success for Target over the last few months.
Coast Guard to remove Harpswell fishing boat that sank in January storm
The U.S. Coast Guard has agreed to remove a 60-foot sardine boat that sank in the New Meadows River near Dingley Island during a severe coastal storm on Jan. 10. According to a memo from Harpswell Harbor Master Paul Plummer dated July 9, the owner of the decades-old wooden fishing vessel, the Jacob Pike, “has made no attempt to recover the vessel and is currently involved in the judicial process for abandonment of watercraft.”

Children's Discovery Museum of Central Maine opens new exhibit hall
WATERVILLE, Maine — The new exhibit hall at the Children's Discovery Museum of Central Maine in Waterville opened Thursday. The museum opened more than 30 years ago with a mission to "ignite curiosity" and has had several locations over the years. However, it was forced to close its location in Augusta during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Executive Director Amarinda Keys said she and her team had a goal to find a bigger space.

FORT KENT, Maine – Can-Am sled dog race organizers say new CDC regulations for bringing dogs across the border could threaten the future of the international event. The Can-Am attracts thousands of guests and brings in racers from Canada and beyond. This year’s event, which was canceled due to unseasonably warm weather, had a total of 64 mushers signed up – many of which were traveling hundreds of miles to Fort Kent.
