Maine man accused of drug trafficking after police raid home in Gray
GRAY (WGME) -- A Maine man has been charged with drug trafficking after authorities say they found fentanyl, meth, and more inside his home in Gray. The MDEA says 50-year-old Peter Petersen had been selling fentanyl and methamphetamine from his home at 80 Whitney Road in Gray. Authorities say undercover agents bought drugs from Petersen.
Public drinking at York Beach leads lifeguard captain to reconsider his job
YORK, Maine — Maine law prohibits drinking in public spaces, but Jeffrey Patten, the beach operations coordinator for the town of York, said people violate the state law regularly by drinking openly at beaches, and he is willing to resign if town leaders don't enforce the rules and resolve ongoing issues.

Edgecomb officials to inspect Pioneer Motel violations
An April Maine Department of Health and Human Services inspection of Pioneer Motel in Edgecomb identified three critical and 11 non-critical violations of Maine Rules Relating to Lodging Establishments. The alleged violations included rodent infestation, lack of adequate cleaning, no commercial laundry facility, improper linen storage, missing smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, improper extension cord use, no material safety data sheets for on-site chemicals in use, loose and rotten handrails, and equipment and facilities needing maintenance, repair, or replacement.

Landscaping around tunnel will be addressed
The Woolwich selectboard acknowledged a significant amount of landscaping was needed around the pedestrian underpass adjacent to the Tanner Square Memorial on Route One. The board visited the tunnel following their July 17 meeting. Wild bamboo, ivy, overgrown tree limbs and other vegetation has grown up on both sides of the paved walkways. The area was last cleared away in 2018 when the tunnel was repainted in an art project by students of Woolwich Central School.

County commissioners deny Caribou property owner’s tax abatement appeal
Aroostook County Commissioners denied a Caribou property owner’s tax abatement appeal on Wednesday during their regular meeting in Houlton. For the past three years, Dana Cassidy, who owns multiple properties in the County, has been trying to get the value of his 63 Sweden Street, Caribou property reduced from $1,383,000 to $150,000. Cassidy said that the city used different assessment factors from other city properties and that he was unjustly discriminated against when they were assessing his property.
