2 killed after chase ends in violent crash in Pomona
Two people were killed in a crash after they were ejected from a car during a police chase in Pomona Friday evening, authorities said.A California Highway Patrol spokesperson said the suspects started driving the wrong way when they entered the 10 Freeway near the Kellogg Drive off-ramp.The driver lost control, hit a dirt berm and rolled over onto a transition road of the 71 Freeway, CHP said.Two suspects were ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. Two others inside the car ran away but were later taken into custody.Authorities said the chase began on the 71 Freeway in Pomona and went through freeways and surface streets.It's unclear what prompted the pursuit.
Nearly 900,000 fentanyl pills seized in Orange County drug busts
Nearly 900,000 fentanyl pills are out of circulation thanks to two busts by Orange County sheriff's deputies and California Border Patrol.The Vehicle Interdiction Pipeline Enforcement Resource (VIPER) Task Force made the seizures last month, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.In the first bust on Sept. 12, deputies stopped a driver on the 5 Freeway in San Clemente. They found more than 442,200 fentanyl pills, along with significant qualities of fentanyl powder, methamphetamine and cocaine.A week later on Sept. 19, border agents stopped another driver in the same location and found 447,100 fentanyl pills in the trunk of the car.The drivers in both incidents were arrested.
60 Freeway overpass damaged in crash with truck carrying excavator in Moreno Valley
An overpass of SR-60 in Moreno Valley was damaged on Friday afternoon when an excavator on the back of a big rig scraped the cement, causing it to fall onto the roadway below. The incident began at around 3:45 p.m. on eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway, where a semi truck hauling what California Highway Patrol officers initially called an "oversized load," left the Indian Street overpass with damage. Because of the load, a massive construction excavator, pieces of cement from the underside of the overpass began to fall onto the road, forcing CHP officers to issue an indefinite closure of all lanes. SkyCal flew over the scene, where cleanup crews were busy trying to clear the rubble from the roadway. The truck, with excavator still on the bed, could be seen parked nearby. Officers had opened the carpool lane to allow traffic a way through the area. The road was opened at around 9 p.m. officers said.
1 dead, 1 injured after police pursuit ends with crash in Anaheim
One person was killed and another hospitalized after a police pursuit ended with the suspect slamming into a light pole in Anaheim early Friday morning. The crash happened at around 12:15 a.m. as Anaheim Police Department officers were chasing a Ford Ranger along the 91 Freeway, according to a statement from the police. At some point, the suspect turned off the freeway into the 1200 block of State College Road, at which point they slammed into a light pole. The driver was hospitalized with minor injuries, police said. A passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. They have not yet been identified. It's unclear what exactly caused the driver to lose control and crash. Officers say that the chase started when they attempted to pull the driver over but they failed to stop. No further information was provided.
