    District Court judge, former assistant prosecutor appointed to Eaton Circuit Court

    A current district court judge and former assistant prosecutor has been tapped by by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to serve on Eaton County’s 56th Circuit Court bench.

    , who currently serves on the 56A District Court in Eaton County, was an assistant prosecutor for Eaton andAlpenacounties for 18 years, where she was the specialty drug prosecutor, and the dedicated domestic violence prosecutor.She also handled a felony docket and sexual assault cases in her last 10 years as a prosecutor.

    said. “As I step in to this new role, I hope to continue the work of providing fair and impartial justice for all who appear before me.I am honored to be entrusted with this awesome responsibility.”

    Morton was a law clerk to Judge Joseph P. Swallow and Judge John F. Kowalski in the 26th Circuit Court for Alpena County. She currently serves as president of the Siren/Eaton Shelter board of directors, and has also served as a member of the Eaton County Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordinating Committee, the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, and the Eaton County Human Trafficking Task Force.

    Morton earned her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. Her appointment, which fills a partial term following the resignation of Judge John Maurer, begins July 2 and ends Jan. 1, 2027.
