Michigan, Canada officially connected by North America’s longest cable-stayed bridge
DETROIT - It’s not open yet, but the Gordie Howe International Bridge has just become an official border crossing, connecting Michigan and Canada by the largest cable-stayed bridge in all of North America. It’s the latest milestone in the Bridge’s ongoing construction between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
Workers plugging old, methane-leaking orphan oil and gas wells across Michigan
BOYNE FALLS, MI – The pungent odor of brine wafted across an old well site in eastern Charlevoix County as workers pumped hundreds of gallons of concrete deep underground. An oil field crew used heavy machinery to slide a metal plug 1,250 feet below ground and seal off an old brine disposal well. As they backfilled the hole with concrete, the freshly mixed material displaced the saltwater that rose to the surface.

Border to Border Trail Construction Updates
M-52 Toward Stockbridge: In 2023, construction began on a new trail segment along the east side of M-52 in Lyndon Township. This 1.6-mile addition starts at North Territorial and M-52, going to Boyce Road. The project involves the grading and paving of the path, along with planting 106 native trees and landscape restoration. Additionally, it includes repairing the existing trail near the DTE connection.
