    Plea reached in stabbing case

EAU CLAIRE — The man charged in a January stabbing has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors and was in court Monday.

Altherelle Robbins, 22, was charged with first degree recklessly endangering safety, with enhancements for domestic abuse and use of a dangerous weapon. The charge is a Class F felony, punishable by up to 12.5 years in prison and fines of up to $25,000.

The plea hearing is scheduled for August 9.

According to the criminal complaint, police responded to reports of a woman screaming and a second call saying a man had been stabbed. When they reached the residence, Robbins was outside. He walked toward the officers, keeping his hands visible, but defied orders to stop. The officers eventually used a Taser to subdue him.

The confrontation delayed officers getting to the man who had been stabbed. Inside, they found him with a wound on the lower right side, near his waist. They administered first aid until an ambulance arrived.

Witnesses told the officers the stabbing took place after a group of family and friends had been drinking. The initial confrontation involved Robbins and a third person, but the victim got between them in an attempt to calm the situation.

The two men went downstairs. The victim’s mother said “she heard an ‘oof’ sound and everything went quiet for several moments.” When she went to check she found he had been stabbed.

Officers found the knife near the curb on the other side of the street.

Robbins has a record of prior convictions in Wisconsin, including one in 2015 for a similar charge for recklessly endangering public safety in Racine County. That case, which also included charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, saw Robbins plead guilty.
