Massive solar farm planned for coal mine site in eastern Kentucky
A massive solar farm is in the works at the site of one of the largest coal mines in southern Appalachia. BrightNight, the developer behind the planned farm at the decades-old Starfire coal mine near Hazard, Kentucky, says the project could help reinvigorate a region where thousands of mining jobs have been lost. Construction on the first phases could begin as soon as 2026.

Farmington’s Vaal Gets the Win at Phoenix Bass Fishing League Event at Kentucky-Barkley Lakes
GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. (July 22, 2024) – Boater Duston Vaal of Farmington, Kentucky, caught a three-bass limit weighing 14 pounds, 6 ounces, Saturday to win the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League (BFL) Presented by T-H Marine on Kentucky-Barkley Lakes . Hosted by the Kentucky Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau, the tournament was the fourth event of the season for the BFL LBL Division. Vaal earned $4,163 for his victory.

Motorcyclist killed in two-vehicle collision
CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) - A man from Murray, Kentucky died in a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon. According to the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were called to State Route 121 North near the Potts Road intersection for a vehicle versus motorcycle collision at around 4:30 p.m. on July 21.
