Once a Category 5 hurricane, Beryl’s remnants were expected to pass through the Ohio Valley to upstate New York and Maine. As it traveled on the New York part of that path, it created tornadoes that tore apart sections of Eden, New York, which has 8,000 residents and is located near Buffalo.

    Beryl Texas Cost –$30 Billion

The tornado (and there may have been two) destroyed several residences and businesses. WGTZ states, “The Town of Eden is unrecognizable Wednesday night with entire trees blocking streets, RVs flipped over, and debris remaining where homes once stood.”

    Distance From Houston To Eden

The destruction reminds us of the breadth of weather events caused by climate change. Beryl first became a hurricane in the Caribbean, destroying several small islands. It then destroyed part of Mexico before heading north to the Texas coast and Houston. In the Houston area, it caused $30 billion of damage, according to an AccuWeather estimate.

Eden is almost 1,500 miles from Houston. The storm remnants will also drive across northern New England, so the damage is not over.

Climate change events are severe enough that the areas they can damage are huge.
