Local civic leaders and businesspeople interested in how to make a business or community more tourism friendly can attend a workshop scheduled for July.

Jon Shallert of the Shallert Group will lead the workshop, “Making Your Business and Community a Destination,” on July 29.

Shallert is billed as the world’s foremost expert on teaching independent businesses how to reinvent themselves into consumer destinations.

Destination Downtown Edenton Director Ches Chesson said the training should help anyone with business or professional responsibilities related to tourism.

“I had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Shallert speak at this year’s State Main Street Conference, and he’s outstanding,” Chesson said. “I highly recommend that you make this a priority and take advantage of this opportunity.”

The training will be held in the Edenton Baptist Church fellowship hall on July 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will continue their training through monthly online sessions on topics such as increasing customer traffic, sales, and profits, and through access to Shallert’s “Destination University” private library. Downtown Roots will cater lunch for the workshop.
