EDENTON — Filing begins next week for three open seats on the Edenton-Chowan School Public Schools Board of Education, including one held by an incumbent who isn’t seeking re-election.

School board Chairman Gene Jordan, who was first elected to the board in the late 1990s, has announced that he will not seek re-election to his District 1, Seat 1 position on the board.

Jordan said that he believes it is time for him to step down.

“To everything, there is a season, and I think my time is ending,” Jordan said in a phone interview.

The seats of two other incumbents — Paul Clifton, who holds District 2 seat 1, and Joan A. White, who holds District 3 seat 2 — are also up for election in November.

Neither candidate could be reached earlier this week about their re-election plans. Edenton-Chowan Board of Education members run for four-year terms.

The filing period for school board opens at noon on Friday, June 28, and closes at noon on Friday, July 26. The filing fee is $48.

Another filing period — for soil and water district supervisor — is currently underway. Carey Y. Parrish IV, who holds the seat, had not filed for re-election as of Tuesday morning of this week. Filing for the soil and water district supervisor’s job, which is also for four years, will continue through noon on July 5. The filing fee is $5.
