At the Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library, the Summer Reading Program is in full swing, and our youngest patrons are working their way through the Summer Reading Challenge.
As the finished books pile up, the library is ready to enter week four of the programming schedule.
But before we jump into the exciting upcoming events for the week, we have some new items to talk about. Our friends over at the Chowan-Perquimans Smart Start Partnership donated more toys, games, and other educational interactive items for our second-floor children’s area.
In addition to replacing a few “well-loved” items and expanding our family board game collection, this year is all about technology. This includes Storypods, which are interactive audio-story boxes; Baby Musical Instruments; Talking Flashcards; Little Tikes Dream Machines; Pop Tubes; Colorful Writing Tablets; and much more!
A special thanks to Susan Nixon, director of the Chowan-Perquimans Smart Start Partnership, for helping expand our collection and bring new resources to our youngest patrons. Also, a special thanks to Lee Lolkema and Ashtyn Chandler for preparing these new items for the collection.
While you are checking out these cool new resources, why not drop into our program room and join in a Summer Reading Program activity? This week we will make tie-dye T-shirts, test our knowledge with a little trivia, get to know a baby alligator, and watch a film about a very hungry panda becoming a martial arts master. Below is our full list of events for this week:
• Tuesday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m.: Sam Pollock of the Edenton Fish Hatchery will visit. Event is open to all ages.
• Wednesday, July 10, at 11 a.m.: Emma Tynch will lead Pop-Up Trivia. Event open to kids ages 6-12. Winners will receive an Amazon gift card. Also that day, Lee Lolkema will lead Storytime at 11 a.m. Event is open to kids 5 and younger.
