Wells McComas Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2678 in Edgemere held an installation of officers’ dinner to swear in the new post officers and auxiliary officers for the ensuing year.

Several state VFW officers and state VFW auxiliary officers were present at the dinner.

Wells McComas VFW Post was mustered in August 1932 and was named in honor of two War of 1812 veterans Daniel Wells and Henry McComas who are credited with mortally wounding British Major General Robert Ross during the Battle of North Point on Sept. 12, 1814.

Past VFW post commander and past VFW district commander John Gistedt served as the master of ceremonies and the swearing-in officer and past VFW auxiliary president and past district auxiliary president Cathy Gistedt performed the swearing-in duties for the auxiliary officers.

Delegate Ric Metzgar was in attendance to present a Maryland House of Delegates citation to past Post Commander Frank Harris, a 95-year-old Korea Veteran for his many years of service to the Wells McComas VFW.

Delegate Metzgar is a member of the Veterans Caucus in the Maryland General Assembly and has introduced and supported legislation for veterans.

He spoke about his father who served in the United States Navy during World War II and who was at Pearl Harbor during the attack. He concluded his remarks by thanking the veterans for their military service.

After dinner the program continued with recognizing the past post commanders and past auxiliary presidents who were in attendance and their accomplishments while in office. Some members were presented service pins.

The program ended with a moving tribute to the deceased Wells McComas VFW members and auxiliary members.
