UNI Athletes Gear Up for 2024 Paralympics in Paris
A trio of current and former athletes from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) will represent the U.S. at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, marking a historic moment for the university with participants in multiple sports. Senior swimmer Olivia Chambers is set to compete in five events, while Jessica Heims will throw discus and Erin Kerkhoff will sprint. All three aim to become the first UNI athletes to medal at the Paralympics, a feat not achieved since Bill Smith won gold in 1952. Eastern Iowa Restaurant Re-Opens Under New Owners
An Eastern Iowa restaurant open since the 1980s is now under new ownership, and is back open with a new menu and a new look!. The Pizza Place in Center Point, Iowa opened in 1982. The restaurant was owned for years by Cindy and Dave Krumm. They were known for their great pizzas, especially the homemade crust recipe. The pizza and the crust recipe remain but The Pizza Place is now owned and run by Allison and Craig Sorensen. After taking over the restaurant, they closed down for a short time to freshen up the interior and the menu too.
Stock cars heat up the night at Davenport Speedway
Stock car racing returned to the Davenport Speedway Friday night with only one thing on the agenda: Track championships. A new wrinkle to the race format was a drawn invert number for the feature starting line-ups. The point leader in each class had to draw from 2,4,6,8, or the entire field, for the invert. No one drew the field.
