City events postponed due to hurricane concerns

HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and The City of San Benito have announced they will be postponing its annual events that were originally scheduled for this weekend.

Both cities announced the events for their respective city have been postponed due to weather warnings until further notice.

Hurricane Beryl is predicted to intensify over the Gulf of Mexico and regain strength before reaching south Texas this weekend.

Edinburg

The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce has postponed its annual Texas Cook’Em High Steaks celebration, according to a release.

Texas Cook’Em High Steaks features a BBQ cookoff, bringing in pitmasters from across Texas.

The annual BBQ event was planned to take place Saturday, July 6 at Ebony Hills Golf Club.

Edinburg Chamber officials are in collaboration with the City of Edinburg and Emergency Managment to monitor the weather forecast and to plan an alternative date for the event.

San Benito

San Benito’s annual ResacaFest celebration has been postponed, according to city officials.

The event is held in July every year to ring in Fourth of July festivities and to celebrate the spirit of America.

This year’s ResacaFest has been postponed due to the impact Hurricane Beryl may have on the Rio Grande Valley.

ResacaFest was planned to take place Saturday, July 6 at Heavin Memorial Park.

The City of San Benito has not announced an alternative date for ResacaFest.
