EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — South Texas Health System Edinburg has been named a Best Regional Hospital in Texas for a third consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report.

The hospital’s news release stated it made the annual list of top hospitals for its performance in providing complex care across multiple medical specialties.

Coming in at No. 23 in the state, STHS Edinburg is the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to make the list which helps patients and their doctors make more informed decisions about where to receive medical care for challenging health conditions and common elective procedures.

In the summer of 2022, STHS Edinburg doubled in size with the addition of a $104 million five-story patient tower to meet the community’s growing health care needs. It is part of the elite 11% of the 4,500 hospitals evaluated across the United States that earned a numerical ranking.

“It’s an honor to be the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley to be named a Best Regional Hospital by such a prestigious magazine for the third year in a row. It serves as testament to our dedication to quality, compassionate care to our patients at the highest level while striving to achieve the best patient outcomes and a positive experience for those who entrust us with their care,” says Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer, South Texas Health System Edinburg & STHS Children’s.

STHS Edinburg was recognized for its high performance in seven common procedures or conditions: heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, heart attack, kidney failure, pneumonia, and stroke.

The magazine’s evaluation of STHS Edinburg included data from the facility; its three other acute care facilities: STHS McAllen, STHS Children’s, and STHS Heart; and its behavioral health facility: STHS Behavioral, the news release stated.
