Edison Prep Band's fireworks fundraiser resumes after storm damage

TULSA, Okla. — The Edison Prep Screaming Eagles Band is continuing its annual fireworks fundraiser after bad weather hit their fireworks tent last year.

The sales are up this year, but the tent was damaged by weather again in last Wednesday’s storm.

The damage stopped business for a few days, but they are back open and ready to go.

"This fundraiser actually funds our program for the entire year so we do everything from offset transportation costs, to meals, to instrument purchase, instrument repair, music, so it is everything that is needed to run both a marching program and a concert band program," Booster President Angela Sexton said.

Sexton noted that the band fundraiser opened earlier than usual last Father's Day in hopes of bringing in more business.

"We had a couple out here watching the stand overnight and within about 4 - 7 minutes it went from rain, to the tent being completely gone," Sexton said.

Everything was demolished, so this year they wanted to be prepared.

"We decided to have two locations instead of one," Sexton said.

She is thankful they did because last Wednesday another storm hit.

"I grabbed all of my stuff, went to my car and sat out in the parking lot and watched our tent get tossed around by the wind,” Sexton said.

Thankfully most of the fireworks stayed dry, with the tent acting as a makeshift blanket.

"In the meantime, we were able to send people from this location to the second location, so we are lucky we had those two," Sexton said.

Sexton said this fundraiser means everything to these kids who compete on a local and state level.

"We just want to make sure we can pay for everything and really help offset the cost for some of our families. We want to make sure every kid has a great experience,” Sexton added.

The firework tent at 101st and Memorial will be open Sunday night until 10 p.m. and July 1st through 4th from 10 a.m. to midnight.

The firework stand at 101st and 129th will be open July 1st through the 5th from 10 a.m. until midnight.
