EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — Folks lined up bright and early Thursday morning to catch the LibertyFest parade in Edmond.

“4th of July without the Edmond parade is not a 4th of July,” said Kale Williams. “So, this is what you do to start your day.”

Tens of thousands decked out in red, white and blue lined Edmond streets. This year marks the 52nd year for the Independence Day celebration.

“I think it’s great to see everyone come together,” said Mandy Kramer. “We can be divided on so many issues but everyone loves their country and appreciates the freedom that we have here.”

According to Eriech Tapia, LibertyFest’s communications director, there were about 120 entries in this year’s parade.

The route starts at Ayers Street, turns onto Broadway, then Second Street, before circling back to the start, up University Drive.

“The parade routes about a mile and a half, and it’s full,” said Tapia. “The entire thing is full.”

For many, it’s an annual tradition.

“I grew up in Edmond,” said Williams. “I was born in ’89, and I’ve been here literally every year that I was able to, not being in the Army.”

Julie Hullinger sits in the same spot every year.

“The tree is the best spot because it’s covered and it’s cool and it’s shady,” said Hullinger.

Many said the 4th of July serves as a reminder to be thankful for our independence.

“I mean, if we didn’t have these people like the veterans and everything we wouldn’t have a parade,” said David Hennessey.
