Oxford Oaks A/C trouble’s continue; city leaders step in

EDMOND, Okla. ( KFOR ) — City leaders in Edmond are now stepping in after seeing News 4’s numerous stories over Oxford Oaks tenants not having A/C.

One council member says he hasn’t had much luck in communication with the complex either.

Barry Moore says he saw our stories, and also had multiple tenants reach out to him for help as well.

However, every time he has tried to speak with management at Oxford Oaks, they give him the runaround.

“I asked to speak with management, I was denied that opportunity,” Barry Moore, Edmond City Council Member, Ward 2 said. “I waited 15 minutes, hopefully thinking they might come out, they didn’t. I then asked to have them call me. They have not returned my call. I’ve called a total of four times to speak to management and I’ve yet to receive a telephone call.”

Moore is frustrated and concerned after hearing some Oxford Oaks residents have been without air conditioning for months.

“It’s unfortunate that the resident and the citizens of Edmond are having to put up with this,” Moore said. “What’s worse, in my judgment, is the management, their behavior or their lack of cooperation to even have a discussion. It’s shameful.”

We’ve talked to four different renters and all of them gave the same story, their A/C’s aren’t working. Moore says six have reached out to him.

“It’s hard and it’s sad when your kids are begging you to make it colder and you can’t make it colder except for put a fan in their room, turn on the ceiling fan,” Summer Moore, tenant at Oxford Oaks said.

“When I ask them about my AC, they said there’s a whole bunch of other people waiting as well,” Toby Schramm, tenant at Oxford Oaks said. “And I said, well, can I at least see the list to see where I might be at in the waiting queue, you know? And then they said, ‘well, we don’t have that information.”

Moore says the lack of communication from management is unacceptable.

“What it really tells me is they don’t give a d*** what I have to say, and they could care less what the residents have to say other than I want them to pay the rent on time,” Moore said.

Moore says unfortunately the city can’t do much outside of continuing to press management on fixing the issue, but appreciates all that News 4 has done to try and help.

“I think you’ve done an excellent job covering this,” Moore said. “I very much appreciate your tenacity and being a bulldog about this, trying to get these people some help. I appreciate it, and I know they do.”

Moore says he will continue to try and get in contact with Nova Property Network, who owns Oxford Oaks, to get a resolution because the dog days of summer are ahead of us.
