Tourism to Lava Beds and Tule Lake National Monuments Contributes $6,968,000 to Local Economy.
TULELAKE, Calif. – A new National Park Service report shows that 136,164 visitors to Lava Beds and 2,731 visitors to Tule Lake National Monuments in 2023 spent a total of $6,968,000 in communities near the park. That spending supported 79 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $7,794,000.

The California legislature passed a bill this week requiring all public schools to come up with a plan to limit or ban phones during the school day, and Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to sign it into law.The Phone-Free Schools Act, introduced by Assemblyman Josh Hoover, would give the state's public schools until July 2026 to come up with a plan to implement a ban or other limits on smart phones.Schools, for example, could require students to put phones in a locker or sealed pouched during school hours.
