URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A motorcyclist from Alabama has died in Central Illinois one week after he was hurt in a traffic accident.

Stephen Thuney, the interim Coroner of Champaign County, said the crash happened in Effingham, but the victim was later transported to Carle Hospital in Urbana. He died there at 12:14 p.m. on Friday.

Thuney said the victim is 63-year-old Russell L. Bright. On the Fourth of July, Bright was driving his motorcycle on the northbound ramp leading from U.S. Route 45 to Interstate 57. For unknown reasons, Thuney said Bright’s motorcycle left the ramp’s surface for an unknown reason and crashed.

No autopsy was performed, Thuney added.

Bright’s death remains under investigation by Thuney’s office and the Illinois State Police.
