Famous Cheektowaga Restaurant Turning into Tim Hortons
Some people are not happy. In fact, they are ticked that one of the most famous, long-standing restaurants are turning into a Tim Hortons. Hot Dog Heaven, on the corner of William and Harlem shut down a little while back and it has been sitting there with tons of workers going in for renovations. Well, if you didn't know the sign is up now. A Tim Hortons will be going in there right at the corner.
How to Take a Walk—in Buffalo, and Beyond: An Older Couple Walks into an Old Bar…. (Part I)
Continue the series on walking Buffalo, from the intrepid couple who walked every day—no matter the weather—in the early years of Covid. While not itineraries, we hope to encourage others to “walk the walk,” to see, observe and appreciate Buffalo—and beyond. William Graebner and Dianne Bennett are also 5 Cent Cine’s film critics, here.

Where the Bands Are: This week in live music & concert news
It’s nice to be back, after a wonderful family vacation with our son Declan and his partner, Hannah. We had a music-filled, action-packed and far too short time together, and a lot of you were a part of that time - thanks to everyone who came out to the Classic Vinyl Live @ the Sportsmen’s Tavern show celebrating Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers’ Damn the Torpedoes, and the Music Matters @ the Harbor Walk Buffalo Dead ’79 gig, which also happened to be a joint birthday celebration for myself and Declan. Beautiful memories made!

The band J.J. Swing will be part of the Ellicottville Jazz & Blues Weekend as they perform Saturday, July 27 from 1:00-4:00pm at the Winery of Ellicottville. Formed in 1999 as a swing band, which was the genre that was popular at the time, they played local events like the Taste Of Buffalo, the Erie County Fair and local bars. The band only played in the summer, which is why they were considered a “summer event band.” After a year or so they decided to become a fall and winter band as well, and they are now a year round band and have found their niche as a local popular band that has quite a fan following.
