El Paso youth wrestler Hailey Delgado went 4-1 at the U-17 Pan American Games and earned a silver medal late last week in the Dominican Republic.

In addition to winning an individual medal, she helped Team USA win the overall championship.

Later this summer, she will compete in the 2024 World Championships in Amman, Jordan.

"I had a good week; it was a learning experience," Delgado said. "To compete against wrestlers from around the world gives me an opportunity to get better. Our team did great at the tournament."

Delgado, a nine-time national champion, will compete at a world event for the first time in Jordan.

"I can't wait; that will be a great tournament to compete in," she said. "It's right back to work to get ready and I'll spend some time in Colorado at the USA Olympic training facility to help get prepared."

Delgado will be a freshman this coming school year at Eastwood High School.
