Man in critical condition after shooting on Fourth of July in Red Sands area

A 40-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot during an altercation on the Fourth of July in the Red Sands area in far East El Paso, authorities said.

The shooting happened before midnight Thursday, July 4, in the Red Sands area near Montana Vista, where large crowds gathered to shoot off fireworks for the holiday.

The man, 40, was taken to a hospital where he is currently in critical condition, El Paso County Sheriff's Office officials said.

No further information was released as sheriff's deputies continue their investigation into the shooting, officials said.
