Memberships for La Nube, the El Paso children’s museum and science center, are now available and start at $112 for an annual pass.

Architecturally shaped like a cloud, the Downtown building will open on Saturday, August 10.

La Nube was funded by the city's 2012 quality of life bond and is a public-private partnership of the El Paso Community Foundation and other community stakeholders, according to its website.

Memberships for families come in several tiers.

A basic member pass for one adult and one child costs $112 , a premium pass for two adults and two children costs $224 , and the ‘abuelos pass’ costs $264 for two adults over 55, plus four children.

In addition to unlimited visits for one year, benefits include exclusive member-only events, a 10% discount in the gift shop and birthday parties, and a member-only e-newsletter.

Pricing was carefully picked to fit all budgets, said Erica Salas, membership manager at La Nube.

“We offer affordable pricing for single tickets and memberships, along with special rates for grandparents, school groups, and active-duty military personnel and first responders,” Salas said.

In comparison, annual memberships for other children’s museums across Texas vary.

The Doseum in San Antonio, for instance, offers a $180 family membership. There is also an add-on option for additional family members at $30 a person.

Unlimited visits for a family of four at Children’s Museum Houston cost $170 ; at Thinkery Austin, they cost $190.

Benefits for the museums include discounted prices at gift shops, exclusive member perks, and lower general admission prices for guests.

General admission tickets for the Doseum, Children’s Museum Houston, and Thinkery Austin are comparable to La Nube, costing an average of $18.

At La Nube, single-day tickets will be available for purchase in July. General admission for children costs $14, while adults cost $18. Seniors and military are offered a discounted ticket at $16.

La Nube also provides $3 discounted general admission tickets to individuals and families under the SNAP or WIC programs. A card and matching ID are required.

“Purchasing a La Nube membership is an amazing investment for families, no matter how big or small,” Salas said.

Here’s what else to know about La Nube:

    Reserve La Nube tickets online

Since the museum anticipates high demand after opening, La Nube will operate with hourly, timed-entry tickets. Tickets can be purchased online starting in mid-July. At entry, tickets can be scanned on a cellphone or printed.

    Rules for reentry

Visitors will be given a ‘Discovery band’ on their wrist while in the building. An admission ticket grants access to La Nube for the entire day. Discovery bands allow reentry only if worn and intact.

    Grab a bite

La Nube will feature Little Stars Café, which serves pancakes and chorizo on toast for breakfast or a pizza bagel or salad for lunch. Here’s Little Stars Café’s full menu.
