EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The Volar Center for Independent Living (Volar CIL) invited the public to celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) with a showing of a film.

The event, in partnership with El Paso Community College (EPCC) Center for Students with Disabilities, happened from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, July 22 at the EPCC Administrative Services Center, located at 9050 Viscount Blvd.

Volar CIL is a non-profit organization that advocates for full integration of people with disabilities into the community and is a product of independent living movement, according to Volar CIL.

Over 100 participants were at the event with the showing of “The Fundamentals of Caring,” a film that shows the interaction of a person with muscular dystrophy and a personal care attendant, according to the news release by Volar CIL.

After the film, there was a panel of speakers to talk about muscular dystrophy and personal care services, Volar CIL said.

The ADA, according to Volar CIL, is made up of five titles that prohibit discrimination against a person based on disability on employment, public entities including transportation, public accommodations, telecommunications and miscellaneous provisions.
