EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – UTEP’s Cade McConnell, hosted a youth skills football camp in El Paso on Saturday to give back to a community that’s supported him throughout his time in the borderland.

McConnell brought along current Miners as well as former players to help spread his message within the youth.

The quarterbacks goal was not only to better the participants skills and fine tune their game but show these young athletes that any given journey can still result in the same end goal.

“One of the really cool things about today was that every single one of these coaches shared their stories with all these kids,” said McConnell. “When we were able to go out and give them pretty much one on one coaching today, along the way you get to share your story. Every single one of us had a different story. Mine was JUCO and then being down on the depth chart and then getting to play. For other guys it looked completely different.

So, when you get those array of different stories, it shows these kids that there’s not one certain path. But the one path that you have to take is hard work, work ethic and trying to learn as much as you can. And that’s exactly what we did today.”

With McConnell’s first camp under his belt, he says you can expect more in the future each one bigger and better than the last.
