NMDOT hosts free car seat inspection event

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division (NMDOT TSD) will be hosting a free in-person car seat inspection.

In partnership with Safer New Mexico, the event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, at the Sisbarro Buick-GMC, located at 425 West Boutz Rd.

Parents and caregivers can learn on proper car seat selection, installation, use and information regarding common errors in car seat safety at the event, according to NMDOT in a news release.

To participate at the event, parents and caregivers should bring their car seat, car seat manual, vehicle manual and the child should be present. Car seat inspections will be a first come, first serve basis, according to NMDOT.

According to NMDOT, if there is an issue with the car seat to be recalled, expired or unsafe, there will be replacement seats available. The child must be present to be considered for a replacement and a $35 seat replacement fee may apply.
