Ma-Chis Tribe to host sustainable growing workshop

The Ma-Chis Lower Creek Indian Tribe of Alabama will host a workshop titled “Sustainable Growing Methods for Row Crops and Climate Smart Ag Funding” on July 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event will take place at the Ma-Chis Tribal Office, located at 2950 County Road 377 in Elba.

The workshop, led by the Alabama Sustainable Agriculture Network (ASAN), will educate attendees on sustainable and organic methods for row cropping that are simple, concrete and financially viable. How to integrate these methods into traditional farming practices while promoting both environmental and economic sustainability will also be taught. Lunch will be served for registered attendees at noon.

The workshop is supported by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and their Transition to Organic Partnership Program (TOPP). Prior registration is required and can be completed by visiting https://bit.ly/Elba24 .

Following the workshop, the Ma-Chis Lower Creek Indian Tribe will hold a public hearing regarding the Low Income Home Energy Grant and the Community Service Block Grant for the fiscal year 2025. The grants will benefit tribal residents in the counties of Coffee, Crenshaw, Covington, Geneva, Houston, Dale and Pike.
