    Elberta teen’s body found and identified: BCSO

    BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has identified the teenager whose body was found in the Perdido Beach area.

    17-year-old Avery Pickle of Elberta disappeared on Thursday afternoon near a private pier on Selma Avenue in the Perdido Beach area.

    According to the BCSO deputies, Pickle was separated from his friends in the water and never came back to shore.

    First responders and volunteers with the sheriff’s office and Daphne Search and Rescue searched the area Thursday night.

    His body was found around 10 a.m. on Friday, and his identity was later determined.

    Pickle attended Elberta High School and played football there. He wore No. 48 on the team.

    Elberta High School head football coach Nate McDaniel told News 5 that Pickle was an extraordinary loss and an exceptional athlete. McDaniel said the entire Elberta community will feel this great loss.

    BCSO is continuing to investigate the incident.
