Salt Lake City is looking for ways to help west siders build more ADUs
Salt Lake City took the next steps forward with a program aimed at helping residents in all west side neighborhoods build accessory dwelling units on their properties. Showing that it’s leaning into the small housing units typically added within an existing home, retrofitted garage or backyard, the city announced on Monday that it was looking for lenders who would implement a program that would incentivize ADU construction west of Interstate 15.
Canyons Village 7-Eleven to reopen in August
The station’s gasoline manager and part-owner Michael Slaugh said it is “very close” to ready. He said he hopes to reopen by Aug. 14. The new pumps and interior are complete. Slaugh said Resort Retailers, which owns 7-Eleven franchises in the Park City area, will order products and gasoline.

City hires senior advisor to focus on major Downtown projects
Mayor Erin Mendenhall announced on Wednesday that she had hired Jesse Dean to serve as the city’s new senior advisor of real estate and capital projects. The position will oversee the development of a handful of major construction and planning projects in the city, including several that have been quagmires in recent years.
Jeff, Lynda (Ashcroft) Gittins celebrate 50 years
Jeff and Lynda (Ashcroft) Gittins were married on August 1, 1974 in the Logan Temple. They made their home in Smithfield where they raised seven children (Ginger, Jon, Jeffry, Ben, Wendy, Jacob, and Joseph) on the family farm. Jeff and Lynda have left their mark on the Smithfield community that they love through their years of service with the Smithfield Historical Society and numerous other committees and projects. They have touched many hearts and made many life-long friends through their selfless service in various callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

While planning to rendezvous with family members backpacking above Warner Lake this weekend, I opened my Gaia GPS app and was astonished to find there the “pet names” that my first husband, Mark Yates — who, along with three other skiers, tragically perished in the Gold Basin avalanche of 1992 — and I “gave” to two peaks in the La Sals: Mount Laurel and Talking Mountain.
Tooele Tech student gets national recognition
Colton Willes from Grantsville, a remarkably talented welding student at Tooele Technical College, recently made waves in the SkillsUSA welding sculpture competition. Competing initially at the state level in Utah, Colton demonstrated his abilities by excelling in rigorous hands-on and written tests. These tests assessed his technical welding skills and his comprehensive knowledge of the field. In addition, Colton successfully navigated a demanding interview process with a panel of judges, showcasing both his expertise and his passion for welding. His creative and technically proficient sculpture earned high praise, and he passed this stage with flying colors earning a gold medal.

New Ogden high school will offer ‘professional certifications’ to students
OGDEN — A new high school in Ogden is offering students a new way to develop technical skills beyond the traditional high school curriculum. The school, Ogden Technical High School, is a public high school program that will be located on the campus of Ogden-Weber Technical College.
