Lawsuit Accuses State Election Board With Meeting Illegally
A nonprofit nonpartisan watchdog group filed a lawsuit Friday charging the State Election Board with violating Georgia’s Open Meetings Act after meeting last week without legally required public notice or a quorum. ACC Commission Votes to Change how TSPLOST funds are allocated
The Athens-Clarke County commissioners are changing how they fund transportation projects through the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST). TSPLOST, a 1% sales tax, funds various transportation projects approved by county voters. The current TSPLOST 2023 is meeting its revenue goals ahead of schedule, so the next TSPLOST vote will be in May 2026 instead of November 2026.
Traffic stop and the charges that followed
Late at night Tuesday in rural southern Oconee, a deputy spotted a small car turn off SC 24/the West-Oak Highway and onto SC 59 without, he says, any tag lamps illuminating the license plate. The deputy followed the car which, eventually, turned into a driveway and was met by farm gate. The result of that traffic stop produced the following charges against Hartwell, Georgia resident Chantel Grace Price. Law enforcement records show the following charges: driving under suspension; giving false information, and no tag light.
