Merrill Airport to be part of AirVenture Cup Race
The Merrill Airport will be part of the 26th annual Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) AirVenture Cup Race next weekend. The race, slated for Sunday, July 21, 2024, weather permitting, will start and end at Wausau Downtown Airport. Approximately 100 unique aircraft from 38 race classes will finish the race of more than 400 nautical miles.
Historical Society to host Kid’s History Day
WAUSAU – The Marathon County Historical Society will host its annual Kid’s History Day Aug. 23. Get your sleuth hat on and become junior history detectives looking to solve a history mystery. Attendees can do crafts and activities, as well as outings that will bring the theme to life. Activities will include touring an historic home, museum exhibits with scavenger hunts, visiting downtown locations and more.
Shredded documents equate to $1,439 for Wausau Metro Adult Special Olympics
Prevail Bank recently held a Community Shred Day event in Wausau. As a result, $1,439 was gifted to the Wausau Metro Adult Special Olympics. Prevail Bank donated $1,000; the public contributed $439. Prevail Bank pledged a dollar for every pound of paper shredded, up to $1,000. This year area citizens and local businesses brought 6,200 pounds of paper to be shredded and recycled.

Legion howitzer renovated, rededicated as part of local Boy Scout’s project
TOMAHAWK – A local Boy Scout recently took on a project that saw the renovation of a piece of military history. Scout candidate and recent Tomahawk High School (THS) graduate Trey Morrison worked with Terry Baldowsky, Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard member and Rifle Squad Captain, to give an Army howitzer on display at American Legion Post 93 in Tomahawk a facelift.
