A 31-year-old Silver Spring man was sentenced today to 27-years in prison for a near-fatal attack on his landlord in April 2020 in a home on the 9700 block of Hastings Drive. According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, the Honorable Margaret Schweitzer sentenced defendant, Geofrey Gaitan, 31, of Silver Spring, to 30 years in prison suspend all but 27 years to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release.

CBP Recovers $130K in Stolen Luxury Cars at Baltimore Port (video)
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents recently intercepted two stolen high-end vehicles at the Port of Baltimore. The vehicles, a 2023 BMW X4 and a 2023 Jeep, were discovered inside a shipping container headed to Gambia. Both vehicles had been rented, the BMW from Atlanta, Georgia, and the Jeep from Montgomery County.

Meteorologist Alena Lee says we will see some rain and thunderstorms for the rest of Thursday as temps will remain cooler than normal in the mid 80's. County launches program to recycle plastic bags, wrap at Derwood recycling center
The Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection launched a plastic film recycling program at its Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center. Now residents can dispose of plastic grocery bags, newspaper sleeves, bubble wrap, plastic shipping envelopes and bread bags at the 16101 Frederick Road center in Derwood. Baltimore residents voice public safety concerns after several people were killed
After a stretch of violence in Baltimore, some residents said despite of a drop in homicides, they still don't feel safe in their communities. Some of the recent incidents include 12-year-old Breaunna Cormley who was found dead with gunshot wounds in a home in Baltimore’s McElderry Park neighborhood on Friday, July 19. There was also a triple shooting on July 20. Then, in another incident, 14-year-old Jasper Davis was killed in a shooting at the Mondawmin Metro Center.
Revised license plates fund Coastal Bay programs
The Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration, Maryland Coastal Bays Program and Chesapeake Bay Trust revealed an updated design for the Maryland bay license plate.
