McKiddy will be the last name of Electra’s quarterback for the second consecutive season. The first name, however, is changing.

Ian McKiddy is taking over behind center for his older brother Collin, and the shared last name and ability to play quarterback are two of the few similarities the brothers share.

“They’re different cats,” said father and Electra coach Josh McKiddy . “Collin was more polished. He’s always been that way. He was a more disciplined runner and thrower.

“Ian has more speed and has a tougher downhill running style. He’s not looking for a sideline for sure. He’s the baby of the family. He kind of throws caution to the wind. He’s gonna run into the wall a few times.”

The elder McKiddy tries not to treat his kids differently, when it comes to coaching them on the field.

“That transition from coach to dad can be hard,” Josh McKiddy said. “I try not to coach them at home. I want there to be a separation between coach and dad.

“Ian has the makeup where is always going to try to get the extra yard. The offense may look a bit different with him at quarterback.”

But being the coach’s son doesn’t mean Ian can’t deliver at the position.

“I’m not opposed to firing my own kid,” Coach McKiddy said. “If he can’t handle the position, then I will find someone who can. It serves them better in the long run, so they know things aren’t just handed to them in life.”

    Offense

The Tigers are not short on athleticism at the skill positions, including junior tailback Austin Lacher who rushed for 741 yards and five TDs on 79 carries. Nate Harlow will also get some carries.

They’ll run behind an offensive line that includes three returning starters in center Tomas DeLeon, Geo Cedillo and Lane Sheffield.

At receiver, the Tigers are excited about transfer Braden Turner who played at S&S Consolidated last season. Turner is the grandson of legendary Vernon and Wichita Falls High coach Leo Brittain.

Harlow will also play receiver when the Tigers go to a one-back formation. Sophomore Cordarian Duncan has shown promise, and Brayden Huffstutler is a valuable tight end.

    Defense

The Tigers line up in an odd front and will rush five players from different positions almost every down.

Cedillo, who is one of the strongest athletes in the area, anchors the line along with DeLeon, Sheffield, Micah Booth and Isaac Fonseca. Booth will also play linebacker as will Lacher, Harlow and Braylon Nava.

The Tigers like their athleticism in the secondary, including Duncan and his older brother Damarion who didn’t play football last year. Senior Riggen Thaggard gives them experience, while sophomore Preston McGee has legit speed.
