Zander Leasher is a busy young man. In June, Leasher traveled to Florida to compete in the Future Business Leaders of America national competition. Before that, he was one of the main producers for Ephrata High School’s graduation production, and earlier this year he helped with the “We Are Ephrata” community forum – essentially a state of the city event.

Washington Enforces Statewide Burn Ban In All State Parks
The State of Washington has a mandatory Statewide Burn Ban in effect. A burn ban remains in effect for all state lands across Washington. The state Department of Natural Resources issued the ban on outdoor burning, campfires, the use of charcoal briquettes, and prescribed burns on its lands through September 30th.
Firefighter severely injured by tree this weekend; life flighted to Spokane
SPOKANE, Wash. — A firefighter was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane this weekend after getting seriously injured fighting a fire. According to a spokesperson for the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests, 26-year-old Justin "Riley" Shaw was the Assistant Crew Foreman for the Salmon River Ranger District when he had a tree fall on him when he was “engaged in initial attack operations on the Coffee Can Saddle Fire.”

The North Idaho State Fair was more than a week away as Alexcia Jordan walked at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds on a sunny afternoon. Stehekin under siege: The Pioneer Fire, the biggest fire burning in Washington right now, is coming dangerously close to Stehekin, the small town northwest of Chelan only accessible by boat or float plane. The fire, which has burned 36,000 acres and was only 13% contained as of Saturday, is getting dangerously close to buildings, "We're talking as close as maybe 20 feet, to 100 feet or so," firefighters told KING5. Deputy Incident Commander with CA Team 15, Stephen Fillmore, conveyed the urgency of the situation, saying, “It's actually been right behind structures,” emphasizing the proximity of the fire to the Stehekin community.
