Since 1980 the titles “Independence Day” and “Fourth of July” are both utilized to identify the event’s celebration. The week of the Fourth is a festive time with family gatherings, food and fireworks. Fireworks explosions are dangerous, from losing fingers, eyesight and even death so be safe. Please be respectful of your neighbors by detonating at reasonable times and cleaning all debris from your fireworks. Emerald Ash Borer Infestation Confirmed in Brookings; Quarantine Expanded
The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) has confirmed the presence of the emerald ash borer (EAB) in Brookings. This invasive beetle, which feeds on North American ash species, has prompted the expansion of the state Plant Pest Quarantine to include Brookings County, along with Minnehaha, Lincoln, Turner, and Union Counties.

Bismarck man pleads guilty to dealing more than 260 pounds of drugs
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - A Bismarck man has pleaded guilty to multiple drug charges after police said they found him with more than 260 pounds of drugs. Bismarck Police officers say Chane Britton was selling more than 50 pounds of marijuana, 180 pounds of THC extract products and 30 pounds of psilocybin products.

Continuing its tradition of safety and flying excellence, the UND Flying Team has won top honors at the 2024 National Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON). Hosted this year by the city of Janesville, Wis., and the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport from May 13-18, UND’s Flying Team won a number of championships, including again winning the Judges Trophy (alongside three other championship titles) for all manner of aircraft operations, either in the air or on the ground.
