Gross Catholic Graduate Travis to Compete at 2024 Summer Olympics
This summer, the Gross Catholic Cougars are thrilled to be cheering on one of their own in the Olympics. A 2012 graduate, Dylan Travis will represent the United States at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games. Travis is one of four players on the national team squad for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. This will be the first time the U.S. ever had a 3×3 Olympic basketball team.
Husker pitcher Brett Sears drafted by Atlanta Braves
A Nebraska pitcher heard his name called in Monday’s MLB draft. With the 221st overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, the Atlanta Braves selected Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Brett Sears. Atlanta selected Sears in the seventh round, becoming the fourth seventh-round selection in Nebraska history. Sears is now the fifth Husker pitcher under head coach Will Bolt to be drafted in the first 10 roundten, joining Spencer Schwellenbach, Cade Povich, Emmett Olson, and Jace Kaminska. Nebraska Countdown to Kickoff: No. 46 LB Grant Buda
The countdown to kickoff is down to 46 days and in the player spotlight with just over a month and half to August 31 is Huskers redshirt junior linebacker Grant Buda. The 6-foot-0, 220-pound linebacker is a Lincoln native and played his high school ball at Lincoln Southwest where he was a standout linebacker for the Silver Hawks including 94 tackles as a senior. Not only did Buda grow up in Lincoln but his grandfather Joe Buda also played for the Huskers in the 1960s. Over his first three seasons with the program, Buda has not seen any playing time. While he could make his collegiate debut in 2024, it remains unlikely for Buda to see any sort of significant playing time this fall. Omaha shooting victim was ‘violent,’ wouldn’t leave shooter’s home, neighbors say
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A South Omaha man says he shot and killed a man who was violent and refused leave his home early Tuesday morning. Police arrived at a residence near 51st and Q streets in Omaha around 2:30 a.m. to find 40-year-old Nicholas Gomez inside the house — he’d been shot to death.
Nebraska softball announces portion of non-conference schedule for 2025
The Nebraska softball team has announced a portion of their 2025 non-conference schedule. The team enters the season after posting a 30-23 record for the 2024 campaign. After seeing the same number depart the program, the Huskers have added ten new players to their roster this season. As of July 15, the roster features 24 players, with 13 returning players, six transfers, and four freshmen. The team announced four of the five non-conference tournaments they will play early in the season. Feb. 14-16: Troy Cox Classic – Las Cruces, NM Feb. 20-23: Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic – Cathedral City, CA Feb. 28-March 2: Wichita State Tournament – Wichita, KS March 7-9: Big Red Spring Fling – Bowlin Stadium The 2025 season will see the Big Ten welcome three new programs to the league: Oregon, Washington, and UCLA. Nebraska offers scholarship to junior college power forward
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have offered a scholarship to a top junior college player. Xavier Edmonds is a class of 2025 power forward from Salt Lake (Utah) C.C. Last season, he appeared in 32 games, averaging 20.8 minutes per appearance. Edmonds also averaged 14.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. The 6-foot-8 power forward shot 55% from the field, 31% from the three-point line, and 66% from the free-throw line. The California native was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in 2023. On Thursday morning at around 10, Norfolk Police responded to the 1300 block of Impala Drive for a report of an assault. According to Capt.
