As summer temperatures seemingly climb to their peak, a new place for cool treats has opened its doors in the Midlands.

Scoop of Heaven Homemade Ice Cream opened July 20, according to posts on the shop’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. The business is located at 565-A Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin, just northeast of Columbia.

The ice cream spot was initially announced by commercial real estate firm Trinity Partners in January as the first tenant of the Spears Creek Plaza retail center along Spears Creek Church Road. Scoop of Heaven was touted by Trinity at the time as a “new premium ice cream concept” from shop owners Suzanne Pucci and Bill McDaniels.

“We want to provide the Midlands with an ice cream product like no other,” says a note from Pucci and McDaniels on the Scoop of Heaven website . “We know the quality of our homemade ice cream products is unmatched, and we love exploring new unique flavors that we know everyone will love!”

The Elgin shop boasts 32 flavors of ice cream, according to its website , from classics such as strawberry and chocolate to unique offerings such as coconut cream pie and Cookie Monster crumble (that’s vanilla ice cream with a touch of blue frosting and Oreo pieces).

Scoop of Heaven offers its ice cream treats in cones or cups, and has milk shakes and Rip Currents. A Rip Current is soft vanilla ice cream with flavors — Snickers, Reese’s Piece’s, cotton candy, etc. — mixed in.

The ice creamery is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, according to a Google listing for the shop.

The new shop is along a busy thoroughfare, as nearly 11,000 cars per day pass down that stretch of Spears Creek Church Road, per state Department of Transportation data . There are a number of businesses nearby, as well as Pontiac Elementary School. The Woodcreek Farms neighborhood and the Columbia Fire Station No. 4 also are nearby.
