MILLIGAN – Milligan University faculty and staff joined forces with the physical plant team this morning to complete final campus enhancements ahead of the students’ return.

The university’s annual “Campus Workday” began with a continental breakfast, followed by employees working together on landscaping, painting, and cleaning projects. The day wrapped up with a lunch for employees at noon.

This year’s Campus Workday marked the first campus-wide event for Milligan President Dr. Stephen Waers, who assumed office on Aug. 1.

“I can’t think of a better way to begin another year of preparing students to be servant-leaders than to engage in acts of service on behalf of our students,” Waers said. “As a community, we seek to model our mission and values in everything we do. Our physical plant team works tirelessly all year to make sure our campus mirrors the beauty of the mountains that surround us, and we are happy to join them in that work.”

The workday also highlighted several renovation and improvement projects completed over the summer. The most significant renovation involved installing a new roof, gutters, and downspouts at the B.D. Phillips Memorial Building on Emmanuel Hill. Technological and audiovisual upgrades were made to Seeger Chapel to enhance the student worship experience. Additionally, several locker rooms and offices in the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse were renovated.

All Milligan dormitories now feature electronic access control systems to manage entry, and multiple campus apartments were converted to undergraduate housing to accommodate increased enrollment. At the request of Milligan’s Student Government Association, additional bike racks were installed around Derthick Hall and the Student Union Building.

Move-In Day for new students is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, with classes set to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
