BRISTOL – Samuel Brashears, MD, joins Holston Medical Group’s (HMG) team of highly qualified providers who support the community in navigating its care and being smart healthcare consumers. He will provide care at HMG Primary Care at Sapling Grove, 240 Medical Park Blvd., Suite 300, Bristol.

Dr. Brashears has always felt a calling to medicine, a passion rooted in his childhood. Growing up alongside his mother, an ER nurse, he found early inspiration in the busy hospital environment.

“I frequently saw patients coming in with life-altering conditions that could have been prevented or improved in a clinic setting weeks beforehand,” said Dr. Brashears.

These experiences shaped his desire to pursue a medical career focused on helping others. As an Appalachian native, he is committed to serving the community that nurtured him and building lasting relationships.

“Early detection and prevention are vital to optimal health,” he states. “High levels of coordination at the primary care office keeps patients happier, healthier, and more financially sound.”

Dr. Brashears knows that a visit to the ER or a stay in the hospital is a major event, but life doesn’t stop for people when this happens. “Working closely with my team at HMG will allow me to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and the expenses, frustration, and hardships that often come with them,” he explains.

Dr. Brashears is thankful to have access to over thirty specialties and services at HMG for his patients who need additional personalized, empathetic medical care. “Being able to refer my patients within the HMG Family of Care provides a high level of coordination that patients deserve.”

Leaning on the shared philosophy of whole-person healthcare, he will support the HMG team in giving families access to personalized, empathetic care from a trusted provider at an affordable cost.

Dr. Brashears received his medical doctorate at East Tennessee State, Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tenn., and then completed a residency at ETSU Family Medicine Associates in Johnson City.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Brashears enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding. He and his fiancé like working on home improvement projects. When he is not traveling, you can find him rebuilding older Toyota 4Runners.
